The climbing morning glory (Ipomoea purpurea) is a white-flowered weedy vine that climbs by thickening its taproot deep within the soil and anchor roots. In the spring and during warm summer months, winged fruits are usually seen dangling from plant stems. These seeds were the main dispersal agent for the morning glory for centuries. Its flowers are white, blue and purple with yellow centers. The fruit is bright red in color and can be seen in patches of vegetation all over Minneapolis. This beautiful but toxic plant is often confused with Pokeweed which is also highly toxic but is much more prevalent around Minneapolis.
