A topic you might not be familiar with is a parasite called the flea. We will call them the pests of the animal world because they feed on your pets blood, it’s pretty gross when you stop and think about it. They come in two breeds small and large. Smaller types are usually what we see in our furry friends, but that doesn’t mean they are happy. The smaller ones can still kill your pet by sucking them dry of blood and they cause a lot of psychological damage too. When they bite your pet it can cause itching and discomfort which I’m sure you know all about as well. It’s very hard to notice these little critters crawling around so here are some pictures for you to take a look at if you don’t know what I’m talking about. Today we will talk about pictures of fleas on dogs and other animals so let’s get started. Yes, that’s right, they’re not just bad for your pets, they’re also in your house. If you happen to find any fleas or ticks on your cat or dog, don’t panic and chuck them outside, please get them treated at the vet.
Pictures Of Fleas And Ticks
Fleas and ticks are both common pests in the United States. They can be found all over the country, and they’re especially prevalent in warm, humid climates.
While fleas and ticks are similar in that they both live on animals and feed off of their blood, there are distinct differences between them—and it’s important to know what those differences are so you can avoid bringing one into your home or yard.
Fleas
Fleas are wingless insects that have piercing mouthparts for sucking blood from mammals and birds. They can be found on dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, humans… pretty much any animal with fur! They’re tiny (about 1/8″ long), brownish red bugs with tapered bodies and six legs. It’s easy to spot a flea if you see one crawling around on your dog; most people notice them when they hear their pets scratching at themselves incessantly or licking their fur obsessively.
Fleas and ticks are the most common parasites found on dogs. Though they can be annoying, the presence of fleas or ticks does not necessarily mean that your dog has an underlying medical condition.
A typical flea is about 1/16th of an inch long and is dark brown in color. The eggs are very tiny, about the size of a grain of salt, and white in color. The larvae look like tiny worms that are black in color. The adult flea will feed off of your dog’s blood but may also feed off other hosts, such as cats or rodents.
Ticks typically attach themselves to the skin near a hair follicle and feed off of your dog’s blood until they become engorged with fluid. They are usually grayish-brown in color and have eight legs (four pairs), which they use to latch onto their host as they feed. Ticks can cause irritation on your dog’s skin if left attached for too long, which could lead to infection if not removed properly by a veterinarian who knows how to remove ticks safely without causing any harm or damage to the host animal’s skin or fur coat; this is why it’s important for all dogs to be examined once per month by their veterinarian.
