Not only do they cause itchy bites, but other health problems can occur from a bed bug bite. These bites have redness, swelling, and in some cases, scarring.

When traveling, bed bugs are a common problem in hotels and hostels. To protect your clothes from bed bugs when you travel, inspect your hotel room for signs of an infestation. If there is an infestation, the inspector will be able to recommend effective treatments for getting rid of them.

If there are no signs of an infestation, but you’re still worried about bringing bed bugs home with you on your clothes or luggage (or vice versa), try these steps:

• Inspect your hotel room carefully before unpacking anything. Look under beds, behind furniture and in other dark corners where bed bugs might hide during the day. Look under window shades or pictures on walls; these areas aren’t often inspected by staff members looking for signs of an infestation because they can be hard to see without moving things around first!
• Place all items into storage bins immediately upon arriving at your destination so that no one touches anything until after they’ve inspected it thoroughly themselves later on down at home with their own set of tools (bed bug detection kit). If you have a bed bug infestation, do not bring clothes into the home that may have been exposed to the infestation.

Instead, use a plastic bag to transport clothes to the dry cleaner. A dry cleaning bag with a zipper is ideal for this purpose. Do not shake the bag; doing so will cause bed bugs to escape from their hiding places and attach themselves more readily to your clothing. Remove all items from the bag immediately upon arrival at the cleaners’ office (or laundry service) and wash them in hot water before taking them home again.
