Since the success of the Bug Hotel, we decided to take it to the next level. The Bed Bug Coaster (BBC) is the new way to get rid of bed bugs. The BBC is a set of plastic coasters that adheres to the bottom of your mattress, blocking any potentially uncomfortable and inconvenient encounters with undesirable bed bugs. No more need of immersing yourself in embarassing experiences whenever you’re using someone else’s bed. After recently purchasing a couple new mattresses, my girlfriend and I found bed bug droppings on our pillows. We had heard stories about how common bed bugs were becoming, but never thought they’d be in our home. After doing some online research, we learned that the mattress is actually the most likely place to pick up bed bugs (next to couches and chairs). This is one of the reasons why I invented the Bed Bug Coaster.
Bed Bug Coaster
I like coasters.
Coasters are little squares of wood, plastic or glass. They’re designed to protect your table from water damage and/or ring marks left by drinks.
This is all well and good, but I’m not here to talk about coasters as they were originally intended. I’m here to talk about their second life as a home defense weapon!
They’re lightweight, easy to carry around and can be used in a pinch at home or out on the town if you need an impromptu weapon (especially if you keep them in your purse). They also make great conversation starters because everyone likes talking about how much they enjoy coffee tables instead of just talking about coffee tables themselves—plus it gives people something else to focus on besides asking why you brought a coaster into the bar with you!
I hate bed bugs.
You may think you’re above killing bed bugs, but know this: It’s a matter of survival. Bed bugs are blood sucking pests that make their home in our beds, and they’re not going anywhere anytime soon. You can’t even blame them for it—they’re just trying to survive like the rest of us! That being said, there are ways to get rid of these pesky critters without resorting to violence or toxic chemicals.
Here’s what you should know about bed bugs:
- Bed bugs are small (about 1/4 inch long) brown insects that live on blood meals from humans or other animals
- They have flat bodies with six legs and antennae
- Their bodies are covered with fine hairs that give them an almost velvety appearance
How to make a coaster
Coasters are a great gift for any occasion! They’re easy to make, and they can be used with nearly any beverage on the go.
- First things first: What is a coaster? A coaster is a small piece of absorbent material or wood cut into the shape of your choosing that you place under your drink to prevent it from damaging surfaces like tables, desks, counters and other surfaces.
- Why use coasters? Coasters help keep your furniture looking new longer by preventing water stains and rings from beverages that contain sugar (like soda or alcohol) from building up on them over time. If left untreated for too long these marks will damage the finish of your furniture which could result in expensive repair bills down the line if not fixed quickly enough!
What is a bed bug?
Bed bugs are small, parasitic insects that feed on the blood of mammals. They are wingless and range in color from straw to brown.
They can grow to be as long as 1/4 inch and have an oval or elongated shape. Bed bugs have been associated with humans for thousands of years and have been found fossilized in caves in France dating back over 60,000 years! They’ve also been found on Egyptian mummies dating back 2,500 years ago! The reason they survived all these years? Bed bugs live by feeding off human blood — which gives them a very long life span (one study found eggs had survived up to two years without feeding).
They prefer to live close to your sleeping area but may travel throughout an entire building searching for food or shelter from the sun’s heat. Bed bugs hide in cracks and crevices during daylight hours; once it gets dark you’ll find them crawling onto your bedding looking for a meal!
How to build a coaster
- Step 1: Get a coaster
- Step 2: Prepare the coaster
- Step 3: Build the coaster
- Step 4: Enjoy your new coaster
Do it yourself
Making the coaster is a simple process, but it does require some patience and know-how. Here are the steps to follow:
- Purchase a block of foam from your local craft store. The foam should be about two inches thick and two inches wide (the size of a standard coaster).
- Cut out one inch strips of cardboard with scissors so that you have enough to cover all four sides of your foam block (you will need at least four pieces for each side).
- Read instructions on how to apply glue onto cotton balls with tweezers before applying glue to one side of each strip of cardboard with tweezers so that you can use them as applicators later in step six below. Be sure not to get any glue on other parts of these applicators or else they won’t stick right when applied later!
- Apply paste carpenter ants killer dust evenly across all sides(s) or inside surface(s)of paper mache ball/mould (including top & bottom surfaces if making double-sided model), being careful not get any dust near hole at top center since this will cause leak during drying process). After completing step 4 above wait 10 minutes before proceeding further into next step 5 below because this allows time needed for paste carpenter ants killer dust granules become tacky at room temperature conditions prior
