Bed Bug Cycle Time

Bed bug problems are still rampant, and with the summer heat season upon us we need to be proactive to avoid an infestation. To learn about bed bugs I turned to experts in the field for help. Here’s what I learned about bed bug cycle time, how much does it cost to get rid of bed bugs, who should you call to get rid of them and more. Bed bug infestations are on an upward trend throughout the United States and Canada. These insects place home owners and business owners at risk by forcing them to spend thousands of dollars in bed bug treatment. Bed bug cycle time refers to the time it takes a bed bug colony to replenish itself after being treated with insecticides. If you are treating a bed bug infestation, it is important to understand how long it will take before the next generation is born.

Bed Bug Cycle Time

Egg

Bed bugs are small, brown insects that feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals. They are oval in shape and have a flat body. They have six legs and two antennae. Bed bugs do not fly, but they do crawl very quickly. Their size is about 3mm long as adults and 4-5mm when they’re babies; this means that you won’t be able to see them with the naked eye unless you get close enough for them to bite you or feed on your blood!

Nymph

While the adult bed bug is nocturnal and prefers to hide in cracks and crevices during the day, nymphs are active when they first hatch out of their eggs. These tiny, white creatures with no wings will often be found on bed sheets or mattresses.

Nymphs go through five molts (i.e., stages of growth) before they reach maturity; by this point, they’re fully developed into adults that can feed on blood and reproduce. The number of nymphs present at any given time depends on how many eggs were laid by an adult female: one single pair could produce hundreds of offspring over its lifespan—and with no natural predators in sight, that cycle can repeat itself indefinitely unless you take action!

Adult

The adult stage is the last stage in the life cycle of a bed bug. Adult bed bugs can live up to one year, and females can lay one to twelve eggs per day.

Bed bugs have three stages of growth in their life cycle: egg, nymph (nymphs look like smaller versions of adults) and adult. The nymphal stage lasts 5-10 weeks, depending on room temperature and humidity levels***END OF SECTION***

Bed bugs have three stages of growth in their life cycle.

  • Bed bugs have three stages of growth in their life cycle.
  • Eggs hatch within 10 days and become nymphs. Nymphs molt five times before becoming adults, which can live for up to 500 days. The total life cycle from egg to adult takes about 120 days, but it can take longer depending on temperature and other factors.
  • Bed bug eggs are laid in clusters of 10-50 or so on the surface of a mattress or other objects such as baseboards, furniture legs, carpeting etc., where they remain unless they fall off into cracks or crevices where they may be hidden by dust bunnies or other types of debris that collect there over time.*
