Can You Tame A Spider

Can you tame a jumping spider? Well, maybe tame is too strong of a word. Maybe they just need bringing into the home and a little time to adjust. I have done this with wolf spiders and I still do it to this day with one in particular. Her name is Smidgen…she is a jumping spider and she likes to eat crickets (and flies). And if I hold out my finger she will jump onto it and let me pet her, which I don’t know why, but I find very fascinating. Jumping spiders (family Salticidae) are incredibly intelligent and beautiful, yet they are commonly feared due to their large eyes and intimidating appearance. Although they live in homes around the world, they are rarely “tamed”. Let’s take a look at some aspects their life cycle in order to learn how to tame a jumping spider (also known as an assassin spider for the male’s proclivity toward killing other male suitors). No worries, spiders usually stay away from us and do not often bite even if we disturb them. However, there are some species of spiders that are considered dangerous and cause damage. There truly is a variety of species, ranging from the tiny jumping spiders to the giant tarantulas. Wikipedia has a list of 70 different types of spiders which can be found here. Jumping spiders are a group of over 5,000 species that are very hard to confuse with other spiders. They are relatively big and colorful (for a spider) — making them very easy to spot. In addition, they get their name from their ability to jump and leap from the ground towards their prey.

Can You Tame A Spider

Introduction

Spiders are captivating creatures, with their stunning webs and high level of intelligence. However, as beguiling as they are, most people have a hard time getting over the fact that these eight-legged nightmares can (and do) bite. But what if you could keep spiders as pets? Would tamed arachnids be the perfect companion for an entomologist or someone who just likes creepy-crawlies?

Domestication is when humans train wild animals to work for them.

Domestication is when humans train wild animals to work for them. However, taming is a different process in which you’re trying to get an animal to trust you as much as possible.

In some cases, this might mean making the animal comfortable enough with your presence that it won’t attack you if it becomes scared or feels threatened; this can be especially helpful if you have a pet spider!

Domesticated animals are generally easier for people to work with because they’ve been trained since birth—in other words, human contact isn’t new for them at all and they aren’t afraid of humans anymore (provided their owners aren’t abusive). This means there’s less risk involved with training these types of animals than there would be when dealing with an untamed creature like a feral wolf cub or an orphaned cheetah cub (who wouldn’t have been exposed

Cats and dogs were the first animals to be domesticated.

Cats and dogs were the first animals to be domesticated. The process of domesticating them likely began around 15,000 years ago.

Domestic cats are thought to have been tamed from a wild species by early farmers who kept mice away from their crops.

Dogs were domesticated by hunter-gatherers and used as pack animals, hunting companions, and guard dogs.

Domestication has only been successful with a few species.

The word “domestication” usually conjures images of human-animal relationships in which the animal is trained to perform tricks or provide a useful service, such as hunting or guarding. While this is a common example of domestication, it’s not the only one. Domestication can also refer to the process by which humans transform an animal into something more docile and less likely to bite, sting or attack its owner.

Unfortunately for spider enthusiasts everywhere, spiders have yet to be successfully domesticated by humans. In fact, unlike other animals that may be kept as pets (such as cats and dogs), most spiders are not even able to live indoors due to their need for a large outdoor space. The exception here is tarantulas—these arachnids are relatively easygoing and can make good companions if you’re willing to take care of them properly!

These are the conditions under which an animal can be domesticated.

In order to domesticate an animal, the following criteria must be met:

  • You need to know what your animal needs in terms of food and shelter. This can vary greatly depending on the species, but if you do not provide it with a suitable environment then it will not thrive. Animals that are happy and well cared for will breed more easily than those who are malnourished or otherwise neglected.
  • You need to understand what makes your animal tick—what motivates its behaviour? In some cases this is obvious: dogs bark when they’re hungry, cats purr when happy (although dogs also appear to do this). But in other cases there’s no obvious connection between cause and effect: why do horses neigh? Is there something about the sound itself which makes them feel better? If so, does that mean we could train them not to neigh by distracting them from their negative emotions through a kind word or pat on the head?
  • You need to know how to control reproduction—how many offspring should each individual have before being retired from active life as breeding stock? Again this varies widely by species; some animals are able to reproduce at any age whereas others require maturity before they’re capable of breeding successfully. As such we must take into account both lifespan (the average number of years in which an animal will live after reaching adulthood) and fertility rate (the percentage chance that each pregnancy will result in viable offspring).

Domestication may have never succeeded with spiders because of their long lifespans.

You must keep in mind that spiders live for a long time. While their lifespans aren’t as long as those of some insects, they can live for decades and even centuries. The oldest known spider was an Australian trapdoor spider named Charlotte who died at the ripe age of 43 years old—and she could have lived much longer if she hadn’t been killed by her owner’s son!

Spiders have special needs while they’re young that would make domestication impossible in human timescales.

Captive breeding of the Goliath birdeater tarantula is even more difficult than keeping adult spiders. Young spiders need to be protected from predators, fed live food and provided with humidity, in addition to the care that an adult spider requires. In addition, young spiders are not always born in a larger instar as adults; they may start out as tiny dwarfs and grow into their normal size over months or years. Adult behavior studies indicate that these differences exist between full-grown individuals but have yet to be examined at smaller stages of development.

Housing

The good news is that you can still own tarantulas as pets!

Tarantulas are one of the most popular exotic pets in the world, with thousands of them kept as pets. They’re easy to care for, low-maintenance and have a fascinating lifestyle. However, there’s no doubt that tarantulas can be intimidating if you’ve never seen one before and they’re not ideal pets for children.

Tarantulas require a large enclosure with plenty of room to roam around. The enclosure should also be secure so that your pet doesn’t escape while you sleep or go out at night (they may also need air vents). Tarantula enclosures are usually made from glass aquariums or plastic cages with mesh lids or doors so that light can get through but your tarantula cannot climb out or escape by going underneath it!

While it’s impossible to domesticate a spider, there are plenty of other ways to enjoy them.

To take it a step further, you can actually keep spiders as pets. They’re easy to care for, and they make great companions since they don’t need much attention or food. You can also watch them hunt and eat their prey!

You may think of spiders as creepy, but there are plenty of ways to enjoy them in your home—and we don’t mean by squishing them under your shoe or flushing them down the toilet.

Conclusion

There are many different ways to tame spiders, and the first is by keeping them well-fed. For those that want more exotic pets, this is a great option because there isn’t much work involved in feeding it regularly. You can also use some other methods such as building a habitat for your spider or just letting it run around loose on your desk. As long as you keep an eye out for signs of aggression from your spider (i.e., if they bite you), then these tips should help make taming easier!
