Mc Escher Ants

I’m really into Mc Escher Ants. I’ve made two images using the Escher signature technique in the past few months and I couldn’t resist to make more. Are you ready for another?

The wold famous fractal, as depicted by M C Escher in 1934, is a popular subject with mathematicians. Fractals can be fiendishly difficult to illustrate although the modern computer aids, in particular the Penguin program, have allowed all manner of images to be formulated.

I have no idea what it’s called but I really like this drawing of Escher with ants.

They’re the best ants you’ve ever seen. They’re the sweetest, most humble and wonderful ants you’ll ever encounter. Millions agree. You can’t resist their charm! Ants! Ants!

I spanyard (neurotypical) how strong is your mind? The power of the brain? What happens when your mind breaks free and think in a different way? When you can see the fractal nature of the universe through a simple image that looks like a high contrast version of the poster for the movie “the ants”, that´s what I mean.

Ants can be hard to draw. After a number of attempts you might be dissatisfied with the results and just give up. Well, maybe it’s not that bad, but drawing these tiny creatures is challenging for various reason. One reason is the technical one. Besides the fact that they are tiny and their anatomy mutates regularly thus making it hard to generalize. The concept behind this lesson is not to convince you that this is easy but to give you some understanding on how I achieve the final result instead of just drawing some random shape and hitting save.

I’ve always been drawn to Escher’s art since I was a kid. His artwork so whimsical and cool, could never understand why people don’t love his work more these days. So for today’s fun post I decided to give a try creating my own variation of one of his famous works.
