Natural Repellent Bed Bugs

Bed bugs are annoying by their tiny size and weight and they are not being visible. There are many people suffer from bed bug bites while they sleep. This can be too irritating experience in your daily life. And the worst part of it is that you have no idea how to get rid of them and protect yourself and your family. Bed bugs bites result in rashes, irritation, itching, swelling and lot more. One benefit of knowing the exact time is that you can avoid bed bugs in your bed. The little blood suckers come out at night, mostly when you’re sleeping, so protecting yourself before going to sleep can help keep them off you. These are some ways to prevent bed bugs naturally and without a lot of fuss.

Natural Repellent Bed Bugs

Tea tree oil

Tea tree oil is a natural insect repellent that can be applied to clothing, bedding and furniture. Tea tree oil is thought to repel bed bugs because it contains terpenoids, which are chemicals with an odor similar to that of the bed bug’s feeding site. According to The University of Florida, tea tree oil could also disrupt the bed bug’s metabolism by blocking its enzymes from breaking down fats in blood.[1]

To use tea tree oil as a repellent:

  • Add two drops of tea tree essential oil per ounce (30 mL) of water or spray solution; mix well.
  • Apply diluted solution to clothing, linens and other fabrics you want protected from bed bugs for up to 60 days.[2] To prevent infestations in new houses where there may be existing infestations nearby without knowing it yet (like next door), add 10-15 drops directly into laundry before washing clothes or treating them with other methods like vacuuming every week until getting rid of all signs of life on surfaces inside your home using these steps: [3].

Peppermint oil

Peppermint oil is an effective bed bug repellent. It’s safe for humans, pets and the environment. Peppermint oil can be used to spray your mattress and box spring directly, or you can place a few drops of peppermint oil on a cotton ball and dab on the affected area. This will help kill off any bed bugs that have made their way into your bedroom.

Eucalyptus oil

1. Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus oil is a natural bed bug repellent. You can use eucalyptus to repel bed bugs from your home, or you can even spray it around the perimeter of your property to deter these blood-sucking insects from entering your home in the first place.

  • Sandalwood oil

Sandalwood oils are another type of essential plant-based oil that work as effective natural pest control agents against many different types of bugs and insects, including bed bugs!

  • Orange oil

Lavender oil

Lavender oil has been shown to be a strong insect repellent. In fact, it can also be used as an effective flea and tick repellent. Lavender is a perennial herb that grows in many parts of Europe, Asia, Africa and North America.

Lavender oil is not toxic to humans but very toxic to many insects. So if you are using lavender oil for bed bugs control then you need to make sure that your home does not have any children or pets present when you apply this product around your home.

Clove and neem oils

Clove oil is a natural insecticide, so it can be used to kill bed bugs. However, you should only use pure clove oil and not an essential oil blend that contains other ingredients like eucalyptus or peppermint. If you mix it with other oils, you may end up with a mixture that is too toxic for children or pets.

In addition to being an insecticide, clove oil also works as an insect repellent. If you want to use this method of killing bedbugs in your home then place the drops around areas where there are likely hiding places for them such as under beds and chairs.

Clove should be used with caution because if ingested by humans at high concentrations (more than 1%), it can cause seizures and even death in some cases!

Salt and vinegar

If you want to kill bed bugs, salt and vinegar is among the best natural repellents around. Salt dehydrates the bugs, rendering them unable to survive for long. Vinegar also helps to dehydrate them through its acidic properties, which can cause irritation that kills off any remaining traces of live bed bugs. Together, these two items are a powerful weapon against these pests—and they’re cheap!

Diatomaceous earth

Diatomaceous earth is a natural pest repellent that comes from fossils of diatoms, which are single-celled organisms. It’s made up of tiny sharp particles that cut through the waxy outer layer of insects and kill them by drying out their insides.

Diatomaceous earth can be sprinkled around your home to keep bed bugs away without worrying about it hurting you or your family. Simply sprinkle it on carpets, furniture, floorboards and beds—wherever you think bed bugs might be hiding—and then vacuum up the excess powder afterwards for maximum effectiveness (make sure to empty your vacuum bag after each use). Diatomaceous earth is also safe for pets and children as long as they don’t eat it!

Baking soda

Baking soda is a natural repellent for bed bugs and can be used in the home to help control infestations. It works by absorbing moisture and drying out the insects, causing them to dehydrate and die. This makes it safe for use around humans and pets, but it will not kill the bed bugs directly—you may still see dead or dying bugs after using baking soda spray or powder. Sprinkle baking soda around your bed, on sheets and mattresses (including under all edges of the mattress), behind headboards, into cracks between floorboards as well as any other place you suspect they might be hiding out. You’ll want to reapply this treatment every few months so that it can continue working effectively against future infestations

Thyme tea water

  • Add a few sprigs of thyme to a glass bottle.
  • Fill the bottle with water, then strain.
  • Add a few drops of essential oil (optional) and shake well to combine ingredients. You can also add 10-15 drops of clove or eucalyptus oil, or both.
  • Spray on bedding and furniture daily until bed bugs disappear.

Tea tree oil and bed bugs don’t get along, so use this to your advantage.

Tea tree oil is an excellent natural insecticide, but you should use it only once you’ve found a bed bug infestation. Tea tree oil can be toxic if ingested, so don’t spray tea tree oil on your body or anywhere else in your home.

To use tea tree oil to kill bed bugs:

  • Mix one part of dried tea tree oil with four parts of water in a spray bottle; then shake until the solution becomes cloudy.
  • Use a cloth or sponge to apply the mixture to all areas where you’ve seen signs of bed bugs (i.e., feces and skins). Spray this mixture onto cracks and crevices near beds, headboards and footboards, as well as under dressers and nightstands where they might hide during the day.
  • Leave the room for at least two hours before entering again so that any unhatched eggs will expire from exposure to direct sunlight before emerging as adults ready to feed on humans again!
