Adult bedbugs are about 3/8 inch long (10 mm) when fully grown, but have an elongated profile with a wider body than their nymphs do; they resemble apple seeds or ticks in size and coloration when viewed from the side (they look like tiny black dots). Bed bugs are most active in the evening and at night, so it is easier to detect infestations during those times. Inspect your home and look for the following signs of an infestation:

• Bed bug fecal stains or blood spots on sheets, pillowcases, mattresses and other bedding.
• Small black dots (feces) on mattress seams, behind headboards and picture frames, in light fittings, behind window sills and under door casings (particularly along the bottom of doors).
• Live bed bugs or cast skins/exoskeletons which are small pale brown shells that shed as they grow into adulthood.
