New England Cockroaches
Introduction
I am a long-time resident of Boston, Massachusetts. I have a good sense of humor, but it is dead serious when it comes to New England Cockroaches. I have been looking for an effective way to deal with these pests since the late 1990s, when they started appearing in my home.
Blattella germanica
The German Cockroach is commonly found in the southern United States, and its history with humans dates back to ancient times. This cockroach has a preference for sewers and basements outside of those areas where it can live in dry conditions for weeks without food or water. It may survive for months without either one.
This species was first documented in 1817 by Carl von Linné (commonly known as Carolus Linnaeus), who described it under the scientific name Blatta germanica. He originally thought that this insect was native to Sweden, but later research proved his assumption wrong after he discovered similar specimens living in France and other European countries as well.
Periplaneta americana
Periplaneta americana is a very common cockroach species in the United States, and it’s native to the Americas. It can be found in a wide range of environments, from sewers to homes. This is one of the most adaptable species; it can live in a wide range of temperatures (from 75 degrees Fahrenheit at night to 115 degrees Fahrenheit during the day) and humidities (as low as 25% relative humidity). Additionally, they are able to fly pretty well for an insect that weighs less than an ounce.
Ectobius pallidus
Ectobius pallidus is a species of cockroach. It is native to Europe, but has been introduced to North America. Ectobius pallidus is a pest of stored food and other commodities.
Parcoblatta pennsylvanica
This species is found in the northeastern United States, and it is a small cockroach with a body that is brownish-black. The light brown band around its head helps to distinguish it from other roaches. These roaches are nocturnal scavengers that prefer damp environments such as basements and crawl spaces in houses. They have been known to be attracted to lights at night, which can cause them to enter homes through open windows or doors if they are present indoors.
Periplaneta australasiae
Periplaneta australasiae is a species of cockroach that was introduced to the United States in 1875 as a stowaway on ships from Australia. The Australian cockroach has since become one of the most common pest cockroaches in urban areas such as coastal southern California, where they can be found causing structural damage to buildings and electrical wiring.
Unlike the native American or German roaches, which are light brown or tan and relatively small (about 1–2 inches long), adult Australian roaches have darker exoskeletons with yellow stripes on their back half. They are also larger than other types of roaches (approximately 2½ inches long) and fly at night when temperatures rise above 50°F/10°C—a trait that makes them especially troublesome for homeowners and businesses during warmer months because they’re more likely to get indoors through open doors or windows during these times of day when people aren’t present at home or work yet
Supella longipalpa
The Supella longipalpa is a large cockroach that is found in the midwest. It has a long lifespan, so it can live for several months at room temperature.
This species of cockroach is considered to be a nuisance because it will infest homes and other buildings and create an unpleasant odor. They are also major allergens, which means they trigger allergic reactions in people with allergic sensitivities to them or their saliva or feces. These allergens can cause asthma attacks in sensitive individuals who inhale them through dust particles or food particles contaminated with this insect’s droppings.
They act as vectors of many diseases such as salmonellosis, typhoid fever and hepatitis A virus infection (HAV). They may also carry bacteria that cause diarrhea from contaminated food sources such as fruits or vegetables having been contaminated by feces from these roaches during transport from farms
The common cockroach has a long history with humans.
It is a fact that cockroaches have been around since the time of dinosaurs. It is also a fact that they have been found in fossilized form, and even in Egyptian tombs. They have been found at Pompeii and in other ancient ruins, and they’ve even been discovered in caves where no man has set foot for centuries.
Cockroaches are one of the oldest species on the planet, dating back to well before humans walked the earth. Their existence predates our own by millions of years, so it’s only natural that we view them with fear or disgust—but there’s more to these creatures than meets the eye (or ear).
