Oggy and the Cockroaches is a show that has been on air since 1998. The main characters of the show are Oggy, Jacky, Joey and Marky. The first 4 seasons were theatrical animated shorts but when the cartoon was made into a TV series in 2008, Oggy got new friends. The animation itself became more modern with fancy 3D effects and vivid colours similar to Japanese anime style. Characters in Oggy And The Cockroaches live in a house resembling an old castle with dark hallways and rooms filled with spiders and cockroaches . They are also known to go outside to play around the city of New York .

Oggy is the main character of the show, who is a blue cat. He has a girlfriend named Nina. He also has a brother named Jacky who is always trying to get Oggy into trouble. His other friends include: Jerry, a mouse; Dee Dee, a pigeon; and Marky, a dog. The rest of the characters are all cockroaches that live in his house: Joey (the leader), Marky’s father Franky, Marky’s mother Moira and Marky’s sister Millie.

The Oggy and the Cockroaches characters are unique and interesting.

The main character, Oggy, is a cat who likes to eat cockroaches, but he’s not the only one who likes a good meal. His friends are also willing to help him get a big meal—especially when there’s money involved.

Oggy has many personalities, but all of them are based on his love of food—and his love of helping his friends get big meals too!

 

Oggy and the Cockroaches is a French animated comedy television series about a cat named Oggy who lives in a house with three cockroaches: Joey, DeeDee, and Marky. The show’s humor is based on slapstick and other forms of physical comedy.

The show follows Oggy (voiced by Pierre Bellemare), his girlfriend Bertie (voiced by Hélène Bourgeois), and their dog Jack (voiced by Jean-Pierre Garat) as they deal with the antics of the three cockroaches: Joey (voiced by Richard Dumont), DeeDee (voiced by Marie-France Pisier), and Marky (also voiced by Pisier). The name “Oggy” is the name of Oggy’s owner.

The show was created in 2000 by French animator Christian Poublanc for Studio 100 Animation. It has spawned several spinoff series, including “Oggy and the Cockroaches Go To School”, “The Bizarre Adventures of Woodruff And The Schnibble”.

Jack

Jack is Oggy’s neighbor who helps Oggy by attacking the cockroaches. He is very adventurous and brave, however he can also be villanous and dominating which often gets Oggy into trouble. Many have speculated Jack is Oggy’s cousin, however this is never directly stated or even implied in canon as Jack was in a romantic relationship with Monica, Oggy’s twin sister. He is more of a friend or partner of Oggy than a neighbor, as he is seen living in Oggy’s House in some of the episodes (mostly in the first two seasons).

Olivia

Olivia is Oggy’s neighbor and his reccuring love interest. She is a white cat with a little pink spot on her belly. She is also a nature lover. Oggy likes her very much but is often seen as nervous when around her. Oggy can’t swat the cockroaches with his red swatter in the presence of Olivia in some episodes(Like Oggy Goes Green!). Eventually, they grow comfortable around each other. Oggy later marries her. Every time Olivia kisses him, he becomes extremly shy often melting, fainting and stop moving like a statue.

Cockroaches

Oggy holds an intense grudge against Dee Dee, Marky, and Joey, which goes back to even when he was a baby (revealed in the episode “It’s a Small World” or “Itsy-Bitsy Oggy). Throughout the course of the series, Oggy has chased the insect trio innumerable times. While he has lost and fell victim to the cockroaches in quite a few episodes, he can reign victorious and defeat them (especially in later seasons). Occasionally, however, Oggy is forced to work together with them, especially when Jack is played out as the antagonist, like in: “The Dictator”, “General Jack”, “Life’s a Beach”, and “Oggy’s Beach Club”. He also teams up with them against Bob (“High-Rise Nightmare” and (Un)Happy Camper!) Oggy will sometimes display sympathy towards the Cockroaches. In “Oggy and the Babies” or “Oggy and the Kittens” he pleads to Jack to spare their lives and in “Lost in Space”, “Space Journey” he decides to rescue the Cockroaches from suffocating in space despite being a constant nuisance to him. In short, Oggy has a peculiar love/hate relationship with the cockroaches. In fact, he has also learnt that without them, his life would be very boring. This is proved in episode So Lonely or Alone at Last where he gets rid of the cockroaches, but later he regrets this and realizes that his life isn’t the same without them.

Joey

Oggy and Joey are usually enemies. At times however, they form a villainous friendship when they both end up in trouble. Episodes like “Virtual Voyage”, “Cyber-Oggy”, “Mission to Earth”, “Welcome to Mars” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth” show them having to work together to save each other. In “Ugly, Dirty and Good” when Joey & his brain regresses back into a child, Oggy takes him under his care and is genuinely distraught when they go back to being enemies after finally he recovers. Glimmers of their positive relationship still stands however, in “For Real!” they hug after turning back into their real selves and in “Inspector Dee Dee”, he is more than happy to give back Oggy’s swatter after it was stolen by an octopus. Oggy and Joey’s relationship is the most prominently shown as well as the most positive one out of the 3 Cockroaches.

Dee Dee

Dee Dee has the least friendly relationships with Oggy, in Little Tom Oggy, when Oggy can’t remember how to get home. So Dee Dee decided to work together to to find a place to sleep ’till they found their way home.

Marky

In most of the times, he doesn’t cause as much troubles as the other two members of the crew, however Marky made Oggy drive mad in two episodes: in Jealousy because of constantly attracting Terra, his old girlfriend, and in Baby Doll he doesn’t want to lend Oggy’s doll because he fell in love with both of them. In episode Oggy and the Magic Flute, Marky gets hypnotized after Oggy playing a magic flute, wich makes Marky Oggy’s friend in this episode. In episode Inspector Dee Dee, after all furniture from Oggy’s house was stolen by an octopus, Oggy pretend that is chasing Marky with a sweeter, he also pretends to be watching TV while giving food to him.

Bob

The next door neighbor with anger management issues. He is an enemy of Oggy in many episodes. Every time Oggy destroys something that Bob owns he is almost always gets beaten/punched/kicked by Bob. However, on occasion, Bob will treat Oggy more like a friend. In “To Serve and Protect” Bob acts more friendly and even has respect to Oggy once he thinks that he’d make a good police officer. In “Steamed Out!” Bob actively wants to hang out with Oggy and Jack and tries to help them lose weight. He is the main antagonist in Boxing Fever, High-Rise Nightmare, and (Un)Happy Camper!
