What Are Millipedes?

Millipedes are small insects that have a lot of legs. There are over 12,000 different species of millipedes in the world, but they all share some common characteristics: they are slow moving and they have two pairs of legs per body segment (except for the first segment). They also produce secretions that make them repel water, which is how they manage to stay hidden during rainy seasons.

What Do Millipedes Look Like?

Millipedes come in many different sizes, ranging from 1/8 inch long up to 2 inches long (or longer!). Their bodies are covered with thick plates called scolices that protect them from predators while allowing them to move quickly through soil or decaying leaves. They have dark brown or black bodies with red or yellow stripes running down their sides; some species have spots instead of stripes.

Millipedes feed on decaying plant matter and live in moist places like leaf litter, under rocks and logs, or in mulch. They prefer to live outdoors but some species can survive indoors by entering through cracks in walls or doors. You may see them crawling up walls or across floors at night when they’re looking for food.

1) Vacuum up any millipedes you see during the day (they don’t move around much at night).

2) Seal up any cracks where they might come into your home so they don’t find their way back in again later on down the road!
