The sugar ant, which gets its name from its sweet tooth, is a household pest and considered one of the most dangerous ants in Australia. A type of Nylanderia species, the sugar ant is typically smaller than your average-sized ant and can be distinguished by its brown and yellow colouring. As with many other types of ants, the sugar ant makes nests inside of your property and feeds on organic products, but unlike most other ants, the sugar ant uses food as bait to lure its enemies into its lair where it instantly attacks. Ants are the most common type of insect in the world. There are over 12,000 different species of ants, with many subspecies, making for a total of over 300,000 individual ant species. Ant colonies have three elements — sterile wingless females, or workers; fertile males and females, or queens; and spermatheca (“grapplers”). The queen is the only member of the colony that can reproduce.

-Carpenter Ants: These are large, black ants with yellowish legs and bodies that live under decks and in wooded areas near homes. They eat wood and other building materials for food. Carpenter ants can cause damage by chewing through wood to create tunnels inside your home where they nest and lay eggs. They also excrete a sweet substance called honeydew that attracts other insects such as flies, which may then enter your home through windowsills or doorways left open during warm weather months when windows.

Sugar ants use a form of pheromone trail to send messages back and forth throughout their colony. When you see sugar ants walking around your home, they are actually following this trail to find food sources or other members of their colony. This means that if you eliminate these trails, you will have less chance of seeing sugar ants in your home.

The best way to eliminate these trails is by using insecticide bait stations around your property. These stations are designed specifically to attract sugar ants with food while also containing a toxic insecticide that kills them when they feed on it. When an ant eats this bait, it will die within 24 hours because its stomach ruptures from the poison inside it!
