However, we can say that using apple cider vinegar to repel fleas has some benefits and risks associated with it. Let’s take a look at both sides of the coin:

Does Apple Cider Vinegar Work For Ticks?

Apple cider vinegar is often used as a natural tick repellent for both pets and humans. It’s not recommended that you use apple cider vinegar orally, but it can be used topically on your dog or cat to repel ticks.

Apple cider vinegar has been shown to be effective at repelling and killing ticks in scientific studies. A study published in the Journal of Agricultural & Food Chemistry found that apple cider vinegar has insecticidal properties against ticks (1). Another study published in Parasitology Research also showed that apple cider vinegar effectively repels deer ticks (2).

When mixed with water, apple cider vinegar can work as a great flea and tick repellent.

To use apple cider vinegar as a flea and tick repellent, mix equal parts ACV and water in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture onto your pet’s entire body to prevent them from getting fleas or ticks.

Spray the solution on their head, legs, tail and underbelly; don’t apply it directly onto the skin or fur because it can burn them. Avoid spraying it into their ears or eyes if possible; if you do happen to get any into their ears while they’re squirming around, hold their head back gently until the vinegar drips out of their ear canal. Do not rinse off after application unless instructed otherwise by your veterinarian – repeat this process every day until no more fleas appear on your pet’s coat.
